Hair Loss Myths Debunked!

Think you know what causes hair loss? Don’t believe everything you hear. You may be falling for some old wives’ tales that have only grown thanks to the internet. Make sure your facts are straight before trying to take hair loss on.

Myth 1 - Hat’s That!
Since the days of old, men have believed that their hair loss is influenced by how often they wear hats. The standard believe is that a hat stops air from getting to your hair. This results in hairs that suffocate. Other versions blame hair loss on the oil that gets trapped on your scalp by hats. This is simply not true. Unless you hat is so tight it is stopping blood from getting to your scalp, feel free to wear one as often as you like. A hat is even beneficial when your hair starts to thin since it stops the sun from damaging your scalp.

Myth 2 - Mommy Made Me Do It!
As fun as it is to blame your male pattern baldness on your mother, it’s just not accurate. The age old myth is that your mother carries the genes that caused your hair loss. In reality, genes from both your mother and father contribute to your lack of hair. So pass some of those vengeful stares over to your paternal grandfather as well.

Myth 3 - Too Much Gel, Hair Goes To Hell
Nope. You can slosh that hair spray and mousse on all you want. The product is just coating the outside of your hair and does nothing to the actual follicle. While a greased up hairdo may not yield the healthiest looking (or fashionable) hair, it’s not going to cause any thinning.

Myth 4 - Blame It On Work
Stress is frequently blamed as a cause of hair loss. In extreme cases, this may be true, but stress is never a cause of male pattern baldness. Stress may cause you hair to come out in clumps or stop growing, but it won’t trigger that beautiful hairdo so many men are sporting. So don’t use your hair loss as an excuse for that vacation!

Having accurate information is the first step in the battle of the hairline. Educate yourself so you can avoid silly rituals or placing blame on the wrong thing. The truth is, we don’t really know a lot about the causes and cures of hair loss. So read up and keep an eye out for these and other popular hair loss myths.
